The Red Line Foundation provided financial assistance for the purchase of the prosthesis for Cosmin Achirei. The 14-year-old from Romania underwent an amputation as a baby at the age of one month after a botched injection.
Cosmin was born in 2006 and his mother died when he was very small. He is currently being raised by his father, who works abroad, so the boy is looked after by his aunt. Until March of this year Cosmin was living and studying in a children’s sanatorium, but all kids were sent home when the faсility was transformed into a Covid hospital. Starting from autumn Cosmin is attending the village school.
Theranova Clinic in the city of Oradea (Romania) has studied the boy’s medical history and ensured that he has good prosthetic care for the unusual level of amputation known as hip disarticulation. Specialists made him a prosthesis that has both ta hip joint and a knee joint. The involvement of the Red Line Foundation opened up more possibilities than rudimentary prosthetics could.
Jaco du Plessis, director of Theranova clinic stated: “He is very happy and satisfied with his prosthesis. Our team and the patient appreciate this support. It makes a real difference and impact”.
